"Border Town" located on the San Bernardino and Los Angeles county line. Then because of water the town was called "Horine Springs"
and then "Smithson Springs Water Company". Many people did not like the name so it was changed to "Desert Springs" which became a
problem loosing mail to Desert Hot Springs. The people voted and change the name to "Pinon Hills". The name comes from the Pinus
monophylla or pinyon pine that dominate the desert-facing slopes.
